If you want to add a custom token to KuCoin Wallet, finding a token contract address is just one step in the whole process. Please read this article for the whole process of adding custom tokens.
What is a token contract address?
A token contract address refers to the address location of the actual token contract that manages the logic for the tokens. It does not refer to the address that holds your own personal tokens.
The contract address is necessary for KuCoin Wallet to know exactly which token you're referring to. The address itself is the location of a smart contract which manages the balances of all token holders, amongst other things, such as the total supply and its basic features (name, decimals, etc.). If you want to add a specific token, the best way to make sure you’re adding the right token is to add it through contract address.
Where to find a token’s contract address?
Block Explorer
Block explorers such as Etherscan, BscScan, Polygonscan or KCC Explorer hold data of all tokens and their equivalents on their respective networks.
To find a token contract address, simply head to the block explorer and search for your desired token. The contract address will be clearly indicated on its page. See below for an example from Etherscan. We use USDT here.
1. Open KuCoin Wallet App. On the browser page, input Etherscan in the search bar and enter its website.
2. Type the token you want to add. Choose USDT here. On the page of token details, scroll down until you find the contract address. Click the copy to clipboard icon on the right of the contract. Now you have the contract address of your desired token.
Note: Anyone can create a token, including counterfeit versions of existing tokens. Please beware of scams! If you are not sure which is the contract address of the token you want to add, confirm with the projects issuing the token or check it on trusted token listing sites.
Token Listing Site
Token listing sites refer to sites which hold a registry of a large number of existing tokens. For example, CoinGecko is one of the world’s largest independent cryptocurrency data aggregator with over 13,000 different assets tracked across more than 600+ exchanges. Another popular one is CoinMarketCap. Both of these two main options offer the same functions detailed below.
As an example, we’ll use USDT and get its contract address on Ethereum from CoinGecko.
1. Open KuCoin Wallet App. On the browser page, input CoinGecko in the search bar and enter its website.
2. Type the token USDT in the search bar. On the page of token details, scroll down until you find the contract address. Click the copy to clipboard icon on the right to get the contract address of the token.
Note: The contract addresses of the token on multiple blockchains may be shown on CoinGecko. Remember to choose the right network by clicking on the three dot icon on the right.
Once you have the token contract address, you're ready to add the token to KuCoin Wallet. Follow the article to add custom tokens.
